Mackie is a native of Jacksonville, Arkansas and has lived in North Little Rock for 38 years. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and from the University of Arkansas School of Law with a juris doctorate degree. After graduation, he engaged in private practice in Jacksonville for 18 years before being elected to the trial bench and serving as a Circuit Judge for 26 years. While on the trial bench, he managed a case load of domestic, probate and civil cases. He has tried thousands of cases over the past 26 years as a judge and was regularly in state, district and federal court as a practicing attorney.
Mackie is a member of the Pulaski County Bar Association and served as President in 2012-2013. He is a life-member of the Arkansas Judicial Council and served as President in 2022-2023. He has served on the Arkansas Supreme Court Child Support Committee as chair and the Arkansas Supreme Court Certified Court Reporter Board. Mackie was awarded Trial Judge of the Year by the Pulaski County Bar Association eight times during his tenure on the trial bench.
Mackie has spoken numerous times at continuing legal education seminars/classes for the Arkansas Bar Association and the Pulaski County Bar Association.
He is currently serving as a Circuit Judge by assignment of the Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court and is engaging in mediation of civil, probate and domestic relations cases.
